My season so far…

This winter has been unbelievable so far!! This past fall I was attending school down in Prescott, Arizona. Along with school I had been climbing and mountain biking a bunch getting psyched for the upcoming season. On December 15th classes were done and it was time to ski. Nick and I headed to Silverton for a Black Diamond photo shoot. We were blessed to arrive to four feet of fresh snow for our first runs of the year! By the second day skiing my legs could feel it…I was off to a strong start.Silverton, CO      _dsc0189.jpg After skiing a few days in Silverton, we were on our way to Salt Lake to meet up with the Black Diamond crew. Along the road to Salt Lake we were greeted by the spirits of the sky, Bald Eagles and hawks soared above us.It dumped…again!! We had a bit of time at the Black Diamond warehouse, but the whole gang had a ski day up at the Bird. I was more stoked than ever to be skiing again. I was healthy and skiing….!Gabe Rogel Photo             Gabe Rogel Photo I returned home to Aspen for the holidays where the snow kept on falling. Next Nick DeVore and I were headed up to British Columbia. We drove up from Aspen, stopping along the way at Driggs and then Rossland. Finally on the third day of driving we ended up in Revelstoke. The snowbanks were head high and the snow kept fallong. Nick and I we welcomed by the Sweetgrass crew. For the next few days we filmed with Sweetgrass Productions up on Rogers Pass and the new Revelstoke Mountain Resort, skiing deep pow and epic pillows.DEEP POWDER A few days in Nick and I were shooting with Sweetgrass on the Resort. It had snowed the night before and our spirits were high. We were all just stoked to be skiing in a new rad zone with deep snow and epic lines. We all hiked up to North Bowl at the top to shoot some lines. When we dropped in the snowpack was feeling a bit funky, it was woomphing and something in the air just wasn’t right. I had just reached the top of my line as Nick was dropping in. I could see just the top and he was skiing strong and fluid as he went out of sight. Immediately as he dropped his bottom air I heard screams for help. I packed up my gear and headed to the bottom….We ended up driving back to Aspen in two days (brutal drive all in a blizzard), for Nick to get back to the elbow shop.  I sit here now on the 10th day of February, with Nick on his third week of healing his shattered elbow. He is doing well and recovering fast. Niki’s Arm  OUCH!Niki’s elbow…damn! With this change of plans I skiied in aspen for about a week and then headed up to Jackson where I experience the deepest snow I have ever skied without a doubt.
